RESTORE DOUG MEADOWS

Donation protected
Doug Meadows was seriously injured Thursday afternoon (March 26th). We appreciate the outpouring of prayers. We are asking for your support in any way.

Doug's son, Peter, is getting married April 11th. To prepare for the outdoor wedding, Doug was with his sons working Thursday, clearing some brush from the property in Acworth, Georgia.  The tractor they were using got stuck in the mud and while they were trying to free it, it wheelied backwards and flipped over while Doug was operating it. He was pinned between the tractor's steering wheel and the ground with the entire weight of it on top of him.

Doug arrived via ambulance to Kennestone hospital Thursday afternoon, conscious and in shock - where he was admitted into the ICU and treated for 8 broken ribs, internal bleeding, fluid around the lungs, a bruised lung, a possible skull fracture and a broken pinky. He will spend several days hospitalized and is still in a great deal of pain - he is required to take deep, painful breaths to prevent pneumonia. This morning (March 27th) he was released from the ICU and it looks like he will not need surgery. The EMT on the scene said rarely do people survive these type of tractor accidents. Doug is blessed to be alive, and that is the real miracle here.

Doug is a third generation jeweler, and I've worked as his store manager at David Douglas Diamonds & Jewelry for over 10 years. He is a great man - kind, caring and generous - an American small business owner. We have continued to grow our business each year and finished our best year ever in 2014. However, all of Doug's money goes back into the business, and our actual profitability is small. We have been unable to ever offer medical coverage to our staff, and Doug himself does not have medical coverage.

It is anticipated that Doug will be hospitalized for many days. And his recovery time is unknown at this time. While he's recovering, we want to continue running the business smoothly. The best way to help Doug - and his family and us - is to come into our store and buy something, get something repaired, or come in and say hello. As the family is dealing with so much (wedding preparations, hospital visits, etc), I have tasked myself to keep the business running smoothly and to try to raise funds for Doug's medical expenses.

You can stop in to redeem your gifts at our store, hugs are freely given to all.
