PTSD Caregiver Support Hotline
Loving someone with PTSD requires a skill set many of us either don't have, or are not sure how to gain. The Military and the VA offer little to no support for spouses or family members, having the resources to only focus on the PTSD sufferer, although the VA is getting better. The men and women that are sufferers or love those that have been diagnosed with PTSD feel alone and most of the time have no one to turn to that understand what life with PTSD is like. That is where I am hoping to fill a gap and give these caregivers somewhere to call, someone to talk to who has experienced the same things. We can be an ear to listen or that someone who gets it.
Military With PTSD was started by Shawn J. Gourley in Aug. 2010 as a place to launch her book "The War At Home." Shawn wanted to help spouses prepare for when the soldiers came home and give them a understanding of what could really happen. But as the page grew it has turned into a support group for everyone who is affected by PTSD. The future goals of the organization include providing resources and support to help those in need.
Military with PTSD team is made up of veterans and spouses. There are no doctors or therapists, just a group of people who care and have many years' worth of personal experience coping with PTSD.
