500 Miles of Freedom Trip (Part II)

For the second consecutive year the Omega Lamplighters are preparing for our second annual “500 Miles of Freedom, College & Civil Rights Tour" (August 7 - 9). This historic trip traces the journey of the civil rights advocates of the 1950's to present day, who changed the course of American history. The struggle for equality for Black Americans will be lived through a hands on visitation of historical cities and places that impacted the civil rights era, from the Jim Crow laws in the 1800's to the freedom rides, sit-ins and demonstrations of the 1960's. The tour will cover the following locations:

Memphis, TN
·         National Civil Rights Museum
Birmingham, AL
·         Birmingham Civil Rights Institute
·         College Visit: (Miles & Stillman College)
Birmingham, AL
·         16th Street Baptist Church (Historical Site)
Selma, AL
·       Edmund Petus Bridge (Historical Site)  

In order to assist with the exspense of the trip we are attempting to raise $5,515 in celebration of our fifth year servicing area youth, 500 for the distance of the trip & 15 in recognition of the year! By raising this money we can continue to offer the trip at a low cost to the young men in our program as well as cover the cost for those who can't afford to attend. 

Every dollar counts! $1, $10, $30 or more all goes along way in helping enusre this trip and experience can continue for our young men!
