Military Family Needs A Lot of Help

Donation protected

Some times, when it rains, it pours. We are an active duty military family who have had a bout of bad luck for for several years now. After almost 16 years of service and upwards of half a dozen deployments, I couldn't have been prepared for this.

We have taken hit after hit financially for the last few years. And most civilians are under the preconception that soldiers make copius amounts of money, but in all actuality, as an enlisted NCO, we're barely above the poverty level. We have 5 children (the oldest graduated and moved out to do her own thing this past summer), 2 of which have disabilities. Only I work due to the needs of our children. My wife volunteers her time at a local CrossFit Box for a few hours a week, in order to be available for our 2 daughters with special needs. Most employers aren't too keen on an employee having to leave on a moments notice when the school nurse calls, so her getting a normal job has been quite impossible. We were staying afloat until we got sent to Maryland. We had to leave my wife's house behind in North Carolina, so we put it on the market. After almost 2 years, it still hasn't sold - even after dropping the price over $20k. We've tried to do a "deed in lieu", but since my wife co-owns the home with her ex-husband and he won't cooperate to finish the process, it didn't go through. He flat out refused to sign a Quit Claim deed, too. Please understand, he has absolutely NO interest in the house, only to make my wife's life as difficult as possible. He abandoned the property in 2008 and left us to deal with it. We've had to catch up payments, pay the taxes on it and make several repairs to it after he left it. It was trashed! We've maxed out our credit in trying to fix the home up so it would sell, but to our bad luck, no one has been interested in it. So now, we decided to try and rent it out, but it needed to be pressure washed and some serious yard work done. Last weekend my son and I traveled from Maryland to North Carolina to get the house ready to rent. So my son and I arrive at the house to clean it up and get it ready, only to find that somone has stolen the stove. It was nothing fancy, just a glass top electric stove. So, we have to spend money we just dont have on a stove for it before we can put renters in to try to catch up on everything owed with the house. But now, the mortgage payments are so far behind, it will take $30k to catch back up - and now, the taxes are due again!
On top of that, our only vehicle is now in need of substantial engine repairs. We can not afford to trade it in and are stuck.  I can do most of the repairs myself, given the time to do it, but the cost of the parts to do it right is too much for us. If there is a diesel mechanic near us that could donate time to help me make the repairs, that woule be greatly appreciated!  We have a 2005 Ford Excursion 6.0L diesel and it needs a new EGR cooler, a new engine oil cooler AND new head gaskets with all the add-on's it requires. Ford wants over $7,000 to do the repairs, not including what ever else may be wrong with it.  Any donation, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated.
