Alaskan Malamute Munson has been enchanting readers of the El Loco & El Lobo blog - and of course everyone he has met on the street in many countries - since he came into our lives five years ago. He has been a lesson to many in how to be a good citizen in a world of humans, dogs and even kittens. This video of him gently teaching tiny young puppies how to play has had over a million views on YouTube.
Three weeks ago a large tumour appeared on his right hind leg. testing has revealed that this is a particularly aggressive soft-tissue sarcoma (grade 3). The good news is that a CT scan has not shown any metastatic spread to his chest cavity and so surgical removal of the tumour gives him a great chance at a normal life.
Such testing and surgery comes at great cost and the SASH unit in North Ryde where he is being treated will charge about $6000 for the work so far. To mop up any cancer cells still remaining will require chemotherapy over the next year for another $4000-7000.
Munson, his family and fans are ever so grateful for any contribution towards managing this sudden cost.
