Emergency Vet & Crematory Expenses

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Jinny Rucker and my fiancee is Mark Stopper. The dog in the picture was our beloved Mr. Pickles, who suddenly and tragically passed away at the veterinarian's office on Monday, January 19, 2015. He had a small cough the previous weekend, so I was cautious and worried, but after 3 days, he was right back to his regular, perky old self! However, that didn't last long- this time his cough came back along with blood. I took him to Dearborn Animal Hospital (those folks are great!!) and we went over the procedures that would need to be done during his exam- xrays, blood panel to check for anemia and proper organ function. A possible blood transfusion was spoken of, among other things..It was all happening so fast! He was taken into the back for the xrays and went into cardiac arrest from being so weak and from laying on his side, as his lungs were FULL of fluid. He was given CPR and finished the last xray, then placed in the back to rest.
The vet came to talk to me but was immediately called out of the room... Mr. P was throwing up a lot of blood and was going into cardiac arrest again. I was asked if I wanted to say goodbye. YES! Please! I called Mark and put him on speaker phone and told him Pickles was dying. He was able to say, "I love you, Mr. Pickles. Love you, Buddy" and then he was gone.
We chose to have him cremated so that we can always have him with us, should we ever choose to sell this house and move to another one. Another reason we opted for cremation was the ease... our yard might as well be Georgia red clay cement. After we had one of our rescue kitties pass, it took Mark 3 1/2 jours with a pick and maddock to get to the bare minimum of the depth for burial! and digging a massive hole in the Earth after you have just lost your best friend is even more painful.
So Mark and I are reaching out to all of you in hopes that you will understand our predicament. Mark has seizures (for which he is being treated by a doctor) but they have prevented him from keeping a regular 9-5 type of job, so last year he opened his own business doing landscaping and yardwork, light hauling, and handyman jobs. With it being winter, AND after the holidays, he has had little to no work. We can't wait for springtime to arrive, because springtime means flowers in bloom, leaves on trees, and work for Mark!
I am currently working 3 days a week at a coffeehouse in Oakhurst called Kavarna and I pick up extra shifts when possible, but those are few and far between. We also babysit and do odd jobs when they are available.
However, we have found ourselves in a bind. With over $550 in vet bills and crematory bills, on top of our regular bills, we feel defeated. And yesterday something happened to our hot water heater which will require repairs!
Im aching inside at losing not only just our "family pet", Mr. Pickles was so much more... I raised him from a tiny little boy, the size of a Homer Simpson slipper! He became my son, my best friend, my therapist (he was a fantastic listener), and our protector! We recently had a prowler in our backyard and Masta P jumped up out of bed and hauled ass downstairs and outside and had the guy over the fence by the time Mark had gotten down the stairs and outside! I called the police and the responding officer said that Mr. P had been a very good boy and had done everything correctly. He stayed by Mark's side instead of trying to wander around looking for the prowler. He was such a loyal boy. I figured I would have more than 9 years with him.I will treasure those 9 years more than anyone could ever know...

Should any extra money be raised, it will go towards the vet bills for the sweet little starving pit bull puppy that followed Mark home about 4-5 days BEFORE Mr.Pickle's passing! She's very sweet, likes the kitty cats, and has certainly made herself at home. She's very smart, but very timid... we can tell she has been previously abused. We now have her on a steady diet and she no longer has to be afraid. She goes to the vet as soon as possible!
Thank you all for taking the time to read this and for helping out if you can. If you can't, would you please share this so that others have a chance to read our story as well? Thanks, and we love you all!!!!
