After a painful 4 year battle with cancer, sadly today - October 7, 2014 - Michael Kiely passed away. He was our dad, husband, brother, uncle and friend. A man who never complained about his illness no matter how much pain he was in, never asked "why me?", and who met every new and devastating challenge head on.
As a fitting and lasting tribute to the bravest and strongest man we know, we would like to ask please for donations in lieu of flowers. Give a little, give a lot - all will be appreciated and put towards a great cause.
Throughout 4 years of illness and treatments including several soft tissue sarcoma removals, stents, radiation, chemotherapy and numerous emergency department visits, the doctors, surgeons and staff at the Epworth Hospital took amazing care of not only Michael/Mick/Mike/Moth, but also his family, and they always did it with great care, attention and respect.
It is for this reason, that we would like to give something back specifically to the Oncology department. Because even right to the very end, and the darkest of days, they still kept good humour, kept treating Mick as a human being and respected his final wishes of remaining on ward where he knew all of the nurses and felt most comfortable. We particularly want to thank Dr Rowan Doig for his knowledge, support and ongoing efforts in treating this terrible disease.
This page will be used to gather all of the donations and have them given to the Epworth Oncology Department specifically as a tribute to Michael Kiely.
