Keep Going Strong : Marcus in Kenya

My name is Marcus. I am originally from New Zealand, but for the past three years, I have been living in Kenya, volunteering and setting a charity up.
This is my story.
In August 2009 I came out to Kenya to volunteer through IVHQ www.volunteerhq.org. I came to help and learn from the Kenyan culture. Within one month, I had the opportunity to partner with some locals to start a new project in a slum, called Kitendo Childrens Charity Programme www.kccprogramme.org
We empower children, youth & women living in Kenya's informal settlements. We have helped almost 170 children with access to education and brought back to health, some very sick children who were receiving less than one meal a day.
We have worked night and day to keep KCC alive, and almost three years latter, I'm still going! I have managed to stay volunteering in Kenya, for a core part of the past three years on a missionary visa.
While in Kenya I spend a large chunk of my time working on KCC, and then take a break back to the UK to visit family & friends for a couple of months, then I fly back to Kenya for a block period of time. This is how I have managed the past three years.
However, this has not come without a great personal cost.
I have made it this far, because of tight budgeting and the incredible generosity of friends & family supporting me in numerous ways.
We have made it this far because of a lot of personal sacrifice and determination to see KCC succeed.
My goal for this site is simple.
To keep going strong, I need to fund raise for sponsorship for 4 personal essentials:
- Return Flight
- Insurance
- Laptop
- Well being
All four needs are essential to keep this vision of KCC alive.
Without them, I will have a to stop.
KCC has been my life for these past three years. From this work I have been the happiest in life . And it has become my dream and my passion to see it succeed.
