Laura Aboriginal Dance Fest Yimbala

Donation protected
The Cape York Laura Aboriginal Dance Festival is a 3 day festival which showcases Aboriginal Cape York dance groups with an open invitation to Torres Strait Islander dance.  Visitors will join us on a traditional voyage in dance, song and art of Cape York with over 500 traditional performers and over 20 communities participating.  The festival is geared towards providing 100% total Indigenous catering, volunteers, and community effort.

This is a new committee which is coordinated by  Cape York people.  We took back the reins to take it back to its grassroot element where festival goers can absorb the  culture and feel like they have stepped back into the Dreamtime.  Grant Funding for this particular cause is difficult because of government guidelines.  Every year almost $50,000.00 is spent hiring portable toilets and showers which places a huge dent in the budget.  It is my intention this year to fix the existing ablution blocks which works for a few days of the festival and then breaks down and add a few bush showers with simple board flooring, sheets of iron to cover and one can gaze up at the stars whilst taking a shower.

This is an important cultural event to our people every second year and is a landmark historical event since 1972.  It is the largest "Aboriginal dance challenge" in Australia where dance troupes from all over Cape York perform to over 5000 tourists from interstate and international locations

Please, if you can contribute to this cause, it would be most appreciated from the Indigenous people of Cape York, Australia.
