Kids Right To Know - Just Label It! campaign is founded on the belief that we
have the “Right to Know” what’s in our food. Unfortunately, for the past
twenty years we’ve been denied this right. Approximately 70% of the foods
we now eat contain Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). Many independent peer
reviewed studies question the safety of GMOs, for our health and the environment.
Without labeling, we don’t have the Freedom of Choice to decide what we eat.
The Just Label It! campaign was created to advocate for the labeling of GMO
foods. "Always leave the Earth better than you found it." Rupert Stephens

or “genetically modified organisms,”
Are plants or animals created through the
gene splicing techniques of biotechnology (also called genetic engineering, or
GE). This experimental technology merges DNA from different species, creating
unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that cannot
occur in nature or in traditional cross breeding. Virtually all
commercial GMOs are engineered to withstand direct application of herbicide
and/or to produce an insecticide. Despite biotech industry promises, none of
the GMO traits currently on the market offer increased yield, drought
tolerance, enhanced nutrition, or any other consumer benefit. Most Developed
nations do not consider GMOs to be safe. GMO labeling is required in 64
countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, Russia, China and all the
countries in the European Union. There are significant restrictions or
outright bans on the production and sale of GMOs in many countries. In
Canada and the USA the governments approve GMOs based on studies conducted by
the same corporations that created them, and profit from their sale.

When I first
heard about GMOs, I was confused and angry. I’ll never forget when my
world was turned upside-down. I
learned I was part of a big science experiment. I couldn’t believe that
our government wasn’t doing any testing on the long term effects of GMOs on our
health and the environment. I couldn’t believe they approved GMO crops
based only on the studies from the biotech companies that stood to profit from
their approval. I started to ask others, including school mates, and soon
realized, that I wasn’t the only one who had never heard of GMOs. At
first I didn't know what to do, so I decided to research the topic more, and
became more angry about the long term risks of GMOs. I didn’t realize at
the time that there was much more at stake than health, there was our Freedom
of Choice, our environment, and our entire eco-system. I began to realize
what I needed to do – I had to tell others about it, especially the children,
so I founded Kids Right To Know. My anger has since become my strength
and motivation to make the world a better place. I dedicate my heart and
soul to this cause.
Kids Right To Know
founder of Kids Right to Know, has devoted
years to writing and speaking about GMOs. She believes that the planet is
facing a real crisis. "Biotech Companies are creating GMOs and
trying to re-invent nature, with the potential to completely devastate our
entire eco system, including the rapid decline in bee population (Bee Colony
Collapse), directly linked to the massive use of Pesticides. No Bees - No life”, she says. She’s worried that
her future won’t include “Natural Foods.” She’s also worried about
the growing body of evidence connecting GMOs with health problems,
environmental damage and violation of farmers’ and consumers rights. This
has motivated her to speak and educate kids and families in Canada and the USA
about the risks of GMOs. Her hope is that a well informed public will
pressure the government, the media, and food multinationals to do the right thing,
and label GMO foods, giving consumers the Right to Know, and the Freedom of
