Ken Trombley Arena Roof Removal

Donation protected
On Thursday March 12th, 2015 just as a group of Novice hockey players were set to take the ice in Hazelton BC for one of the last practices of the season, they were abruptly told to get off the ice and leave the building. The building was condemned. The 44 year old A-frame roof was too old, too decrepit, and too dangerous for the community to continue using. It was a crushing end to what was a busy, fun filled year at the arena, which hosts minor hockey, figure skating, Canskate, public skating, and mens and women's rec hockey.

The Hazeltons, which consists of Old, New and South Hazelton along with 7 First Nations communities, is determined to provide an ice surface for the kids and adults who call the arena a second home 6 months of the year. It will cost $255,000 to tear the roof down. The community is willing to skate outdoors until a new roof is built. The District of New Hazelton has graciously donated $100,000, leaving $155,000 to raise ourselves.

The Ice Arena Board, Hazelton Skating Club and Hazelton Minor Hockey Association have fundraising efforts underway. We are asking your help in raising the money needed to be able to use our ice arena in the Hazeltons once again.
