Who wants to help keep Elena in the U.S.A.?
November 17, 2013 Elena and I were married in NYC, on a pier overlooking the Hudson, with the Statue of Liberty in the background.
Shortly after we started the process of getting Elena legal residency status in the U.S.A.
Fast forward to two weeks ago. In one day we received notices that our application was approved and denied.
Due to what our lawyer is calling an obvious clerical error, as early as Sunday April 5th Elena will be here in the U.S. without legal status.
We need some help here!!!
After a year of playing the immigration game, we have learned a lot of Do's and Dont's, which we are happily sharing with anyone wanting to learn.
These lessons have come at a cost. So far we have spent more than $3,000! From what we have been told, the next steps will cost more than $4,000. Thank God, we have an amazing and reasonably priced attorney, so the large majority of this cost is going to the USCIS fees. Additionally fundraising costs money, so we have set the goal at $5,000 to cover gofundme.com and Paypal type fees. We want to do this "the right way" and we can't do this alone.
To add an extra level of difficulty, the USCIS (U.S. Customs and Immigration Service) has given a 30 day deadline to reopen the case they denied.
Ultimately this means we need the funds collected by Monday April 13th to beat this deadline. If we don't, the game changes.
So now you know the game, here's how to play!
Step 1. Comment and personally support.
This is a scary and vulnerable place! We have accepted the challenge and believe it will make us stronger. Along the way we will have down days. Your personal support is appreciated beyond words!!!
Step 2. Donate!
As little as $10 from 500 different people will reach the goal.
That's not a lot! Using FB tracking, we learned just one of our recent posts reached as many as 377 people. Imagine if everyone in your friends list sees the link and donates. We can do this!!!
Step 3. Spread the word! Personally share this link through social media and email.
The more attention and exposure this receives, the more likely we can get the funds needed in time.
