Just wanted to post an update...
Just wanted to post an update incase anyone is checking this site. Joshua is awaiting heart surgery, to be performed on Jan 9th. He is gaining strength according to his dad, and we hope he will be well enough for this life saving surgery on that date. I am going to be working in his community a week after his surgery, so I will be fortunate enough to meet and visit with little Joshua then. When I asked him what small gift I could bring him, he asked for Chocolate! So...Chocolate it will be! Thank you everyone for coming together. I will post updates when I return from Africa around Jan 23.

So very glad that you were able to help this young child. It is wonderful news that so many pulled together to make this a reality for him.

The donations continue to roll in! Joshua you are truly a blessed boy! The funds can be used for his check ups, medication, and any other medical needs that arise during this time. How wonderful that not only the surgery is taken care of, but now the aftercare will not be another huge struggle financially. I am simply inspired and amazed at the generosity of you all!!- jenn

UPDATE! We are so very close to our goal! We had some incredible outside donations come in, leaving us about $150 short right now for surgical/medical costs and then ontop of that I will need to pay for the wiring fees. I will change the total to reflect this need if the site allows me to alter it. SO we are only $150 plus wiring fees short! GREAT JOB EVERYONE!!!!

"It’s very hard as parents to stay with this burden. Joshua, who is in Baby Apple Class at preschool, has had complications since birth, which has made him absent in every week at school, so he has been missed out on a lot of teaching. ...Despite all this absenteeism, Joshua is always at the top of all his colleagues in Apple Class. He is supposed to be in Middle Class in 2012, but all his teachers have promoted him to top class come 2012. This has showed me that the boy is extremely intelligent. He is a boy full of surprises, quiet and attentive, sometimes we may discuss /plan, as it may be in homes, Joshua normally sits quietly and listens. After one or two days he starts narrating exactly what we discussed some one or two days back, and with many questions from him! Today his teachers called his mum, and disclosed to her that Joshua has totally declined in class, and he does not understand what he is doing. This has made us worried and I have completely lost my appetite, his

Joshua Update...we have $800 to go before we hit our goal. I am sending the first installment as soon as possible with the hope that it is close enough that the hospital will do the surgery (or at least schedule it). GREAT NEWS! The surgery will be done in Uganda! The price is still the same as if it were done in Kenya (infact the price is more in Uganda, but the travel expenses are less which evens it out). Joshua will need one to two weeks of hospitalization, and his family will need travel expenses and money for food. He will also need to pay separately for meds. THANK YOU EVERYONE!!! Keep it coming!

Urgent appeal for funding: Pediatric cardiac surgery for Joshua Khaukha, Uganda WHO is Joshua Khaukha? In many ways, Joshua Khaukha is a fortunate little boy. He has two loving parents and a happy home. He's only four, but he's already top of the class at his preschool in Uganda. There's just one problem: Joshua has a serious heart defect. He needs cardiac surgery now, and he's running out of time. Joshua has just been diagnosed with "patent ductus arteriosus" (PDA). PDA is a connection between the aorta and pulmonary artery, which is normal in foetal life. However, soon after birth, this vessel closes, to allow the normal pathway of blood circulation to occur. If the vessel does not close, an abnormally high volume of blood passes from the aorta into the lungs, which causes damage to the pulmonary circulation. The ductus is very easily ligated surgically, and is ideally performed in the neonatal period. PDA's are probably the most common congenital heart abnormal

So eloquently put by a friend of Moses: What does it cost to save a child's life? In this case, $3,500. That's what's needed for heart surgery for four year old Joshua Khaukha of Uganda. Joshua's dad, Moses, is Executive Director of Hands of Action Uganda, an NGO that works with farmers and orphans in eastern Uganda. Moses has dedicated his life to providing education, training and material support to a community that barel...y gets by on $1 a day. Now it is Moses and his family who need help. Joshua has had a heart defect from birth, and urgently needs an operation called a PDA ligation. In the meantime, he is getting weaker by the day. HOA supporters have launched an online appeal to get Joshua the medical attention he needs - fast! Please click on the link below 'Joshua of Uganda Heart Surgery' to make a donation, no matter how small. We've already raised $600 this way. Please tell your friends about Joshua. It's easy to donate online, and we will account for every do

Amazing..please keep the donations coming in. Every dollar is one step closer to this life saving surgery. We don't have a lot of time to play with as his health is so poor. His dad told me that he is not longer eating and is growing weaker. Together we can save his life!
