Jessica Vo for Miss California 2013

Hello there!

My name is Jessica Vo and I am Miss Santa Cruz!

This January, I will be competing for Miss California, USA 2013. I’m hoping for sponsorships from businesses and organizations like yours to help bring me to the pageant.

I moved from Fremont to Santa Cruz to major in Community Studies and Economics at UCSC.

I fell in love with this passionately unique and forward-thinking surf town, so I decided to make it my lifelong home.

I am currently a full-time Producer at KSBW Action News 8. I get to write what our anchors say on-air and decide which news stories matter most to our community.

I also volunteer at Community Television of Santa Cruz, where I help the station work as a liaison with other non-profit organizations and inspire community dialogue.

Back in the 1920’s, the Miss California pageant thrived in Santa Cruz. It lost much of its support in recent decades, however I am excited by the challenge of proving that this year’s Miss Santa Cruz is a strong feminist who believes pageants can be empowering for women.

I also want to be avoid being a stereotypical, 'pageant' girl. I am not trying to break into modeling or acting, I just want to become the first Vietnamese-American title holder and be a star example for other women.
