I'm one of Jessica Ridgeway's great aunts. I live 170 miles away, and I've been traveling to Denver over the last six months to support my family. Although a lot of people donated generously to the Ridgeway family when Jessica was kidnapped and found murdered, the account was closed in January, 2013, and the Ridgeway family, my sister and niece, donated the money to the foundation that was set up. I'm happy they donated the rest of their money to the foundation but I'm in a financial bind. I'm not recognized by the law to be "family" even though I'm Jessica's grandmother Christine's sister, so the Victim's Assistance fund can't refund any of my travel expenses or lost wages. I've been traveling back and forth to Westminster to support my family and attend court hearings for the murderer with my sister Christine and my niece Sarah. There are still hearings and a 2 1/2 week trial, which I will be attending. I've already lost several days' pay at work, although my boss has paid for my wages in October 2012 when I went to Denver to support my family and offer whatever help I could, when Jessica went missing and was ultimately found murdered. My husband has paid for gas, we've stayed in hotel rooms several times, and I still have expenses coming in the fall. I will use any funds for the purpose of travel to and from Westminster CO and the court in Golden CO, as well as the wages I'll lose while I attend the trial. I really appreciate any help you can give.
