It is with a great deal of sadness and a heavy heart that we share the news that Jessica Ann Barney Tilahun's valiant battle with breast cancer is now coming to an end. She has waged her fight with the disease over the last year and half. We believed she had won. We believed she had beaten the odds. We believed that Jessica would be with us forever. Last Thursday, we learned that her cancer had returned. Today, we learned that it will take her life. The doctors have given her only a few days maybe a few weeks to enjoy her wonderful husband, her beautiful boys, and her loving family.
For those of you who know Jessica, little needs to be said. To some, she is a best-friend, to others a sister, sister-in-law, and daughter, to her loving husband, Henok, she is a wife, a soul-mate, an eternal companion, to her sweet, wonderful boys, she is mama.
To more people than we can possibly count, Jessica is best understood as a giver of life. She gave of her time, talents, and energy to help those people throughout the world who were in need and had no voice of their own. Jessica has traveled the globe from Moldova to India, from Nepal to Africa, touching lives wherever she went. This is truely who she is as a person.
While working in Ethiopia, Jessica met the love of her life, her best friend, her partner through the best and worst of times, Henok.
Together, they have brought into this world two beautiful boys: Benyam
and Kalab (who turns one March 31st):
For Jessica, being a mother and wife are the two things she loves most about life.
We know that so many of you would love to talk to Jessica or see her just one more time. We wish it were possible. However, things have progressed much more quickly than we all thought possible and those times when she is clear and alert, she wants to devote to her kids, husband, mother, father, and siblings.
We have set up this GoFund account to help offset the medical costs and other expenses that are coming. Anything remaining will be put into a trust fund for her two boys.
