Help Jazmin's Kenya Volunteer Endeavor!

Donation protected
Hello! Just wanted to share that I've recently been accepted to volunteer in Kenya at a children's orphanage through the amazing program International Volunteer HQ. This is something I've been wanting to do for a long time, and now that I have the availability, I'd like to travel for something other than "the music" this time around.... to help children in need.

Though I'm currently volunteering in New York with the NYcares program, I thought it would be a wonderful, fulfilling experience to travel abroad and meet others from around the world who are looking to help those less fortunate than themselves. All while making a difference in someone's life, soaking in their culture, and gaining a new perspective on my own day to days. I'm at a point in my life where I realize how much is taken for granted on a daily basis, not only by myself, but many around me. And through a few personal experiences, I've come to see that there is so much more to life than the trivial and mundane, and that we should take every opportunity to help others as it comes to us. Every moment that I'm not working or creating, I am looking for volunteer opportunities. That is my current form of recreational productivity. And it's proven to be a major positive influence in my life. I am a natural caregiver at heart, a nurturer, and something that has always filled me with a great sense of purpose has been working with and helping children. Not only the basic duties of teaching/watching over, but fueling creativity and helping them to see the art and beauty in the world around them. More than anything, I'm hoping to be of service to this orphanage in ways far beyond what is expected. My duties will range anywhere from cleaning, cooking, mentoring, recreational activities, etc.... but I also want to love and care for these children. Do whatever I can to help make them feel loved, and happy, and to embrace who they are as inner beautiful human beings.

I'm hoping to take this experience and return, not as a changed person, but as someone who has grown through this new, albeit slightly nerve wrecking, adventure. I'll be in a new country for a month, taking this huge step by myself, and all I want is to return knowing I made even a slight difference in just one person's life.

Unfortunately, this charitable quest has proven to be more expensive than one would have hoped... As part of the program, I am expected to pay a registration fee, as well as be financially responsible for my travel and lodging expenses. Though I will be living with a local family, money from my fees will be provided to the family to help host my stay.

Primary costs are as follows:

Program Fees: $470
Travel Insurance: $115
Flight: Approx. $1200 (subject to increase as departure date moves closer)
Traveling supplies: $200
(Sleeping bag, mosquito nets,
backpacking/camping supplies, etc)

I leave on November 1st and will be staying for ONE MONTH. Completely on my own and all but completely cut off from social media (some of you may be excited for that break from me ;)
But I am very excited and very devoted to making this happen. I am selling a ton of comics and band goodies, as well as putting everything I earn from work/sales that does not go into bills into this. Some bills are even going unpaid for this, shhh. Any other ways I can get the word out, I am open to suggestions.

I'm hoping to meet my goal so I can book the flight (the most expensive part, as prices rise the closer to departure date you get) as soon as possible! I'm hoping I reach as many family and friends as possible in helping me reach my goal. To know that I have all of your support during this new journey will make it all that much more rewarding. Any donation you can spare will bring me closer to this life checkpoint and it will make my heart swell swell swell. Even if you can not spare, I ask that you please share this page to anyone you think might be able to help me. OR you can simply leave a comment showing your support. It's actually quite rare that I get any support in these types of things (things that actually mean something to me) and it's always encouraging to know someone has my back.

Thank you for reading and I really truly appreciate any help anyone has to offer!
