I need a new camera.

I have been an artist my entire life, a prolific photographer for more than a decade, and I have been disabled for about five years.

Before my genetic condition became a disability, I pushed myself very hard. I worked full time, went to school full time, co-hosted a popular weekly open-mic set, edited a 'zine, performed with a theater troop, and sold my photography at solo exhibitions throughout my city.

And then one day I collapsed at work.

My old life dissolved.  I continued to be creative even on my worst days, using art as a means of being productive in an otherwise limited life. My camera was always my most precious possession. With nothing more than a focused gaze and a gesture of the finger, I could still be a prolific artist.

For everything my illness took from me, it left behind a purposeful existence free from distraction, focused on creativity, and built to accommodate an illness rather than ignore it.

Though art is the one vocation that does not compete with my condition, I can no longer afford the equipment necessary to be professional. Last year I privately grieved the "death" of my dearly beloved camera. Without income, I have been unable to repair or replace my equipment with anything of comparable quality. I can make beautiful art with my cell phone, but I cannot make a living. Help me regain my independence by empowering me as an artist. I have the skills and the experience, I just need the right tools.
