Heroes And Angels Stockings

My name is Gene DeRosa. I have written two horror movie trivia books based on the Friday the 13th and Halloween movie franchises. This has led to doing many Comic Cons and other shows both here in our home state of Oklahoma as well as the surrounding areas. My wife (Traci) and I now also make custom made bags to bring to shows, and we also work with our friends Megan and Derrik to offer a selection of over five hundred 2.25 inch buttons.

Last May at Little Rock Comic Con in Benton, AR, I had the pleasure of meeting a young lady named Bailey. She mentioned that the previous week her mom (Brandy) ran a show for their charity Heroes And Angels and how she was also a horror fan and would probably like me to be at their next show.  That progressed and now we are indeed booked into their Heroes And Angels Comic Con in April as a guest.

Fast forward to this past weekend and The Cosplay Con and Anime Experience. Sadly, it turned into just that  -- a total con job. The promoter of the show has essentially ripped everyone off. Guests weren't paid, charities weren't paid, the venue was partially not paid, promises that were made to so many just were not fulfilled on many levels.

One group left with nothing but broken promises was the Heroes and Angels charity. The promoter used their name to promote the convention and promised them a portion of the proceeds from the kid's room which was set up. They were promised somewhere between $500 and $2000. This money was to go towards the Heroes and Angels Christmas Stocking program. Later in this post I will share Brandy's detailed description of the program, and of her charity, but the Stocking program basically supplies Christmas Stockings loaded with fun gifts to their Heroes (the children with cancer) and their siblings.

While I know so many vendors and cosplayers, guests, and even attendees lost money and did not get what they were expecting, the Heroes and Angels Charity is the one I know and have been already working with, which is why I have chosen to do this campaign for them. I do know of some other campaigns being posted for other purposes and will link them all once I have their info.

Also, there is a bit of a time crunch to get them this money as it was all earmarked for Christmas stuff.

I have reached out to some of the Cosplayers that were there to see if they would like to donate some signed photos or other things to be used as rewards. I will also be adding in some of our own inventory as rewards. Check back as I will be adding in more rewards as they come in.  To see pics of the rewards please check in the Updates section.

Here is Brandy Bullock's statement about what it is Heroes and Angels does, and also about their Christmas Stocking program:

"Heroes and Angels is a nonprofit organization that provides assistance to families affected with childhood cancer with nonmedical needs: gas, groceries, rent, day to day living expenses. At Christmas time instead of doing a large toy drive, we provide our Heroes and their siblings with stockings. Stockings are something that get forgotten sometimes so we try to make sure they don't."

This will fund 50 stockings for 30 boys and 20 girls. The ages range from 1 year to 17 years old. The majority falls in the 6-13 range.

NOTE: The goal is set at $1100 to cover the GoFundMe fees that will be taken out and still leave $1000 minimum.
