Hi Everyone; My name is Beth and I want to thank you so very much for stopping by my page!!

I am a type 1 diabetic and recently suffered from congestive heart failure and cellulitis (a dangerous bacterial infection) in my right leg. It was all quite shocking as I went from feeling completely fine one day to spending two weeks in the hospital.

A simple open blister on the bottom of my foot is what started the chain of events; the blister must have been on my foot for about two weeks when all of a sudden on a Friday afternoon a huge wave of nausea, body pain and fatigue came over me. Assuming it was just some kind of stomach bug, I layed down for a nap and ended up waking 17 hours later. Saturday was a repeat of Friday and consisted of about 20 hours of sleep. On Sunday I gathered up all of my energy to take a shower, thinking the water would do me good. When I stepped out of my sweats I was shocked to see my right leg swollen to two to three times normal and covered in horrifying red rash. An immediate trip to the emergency room resulted in a diagnosis of cellulitis - and five days in a hospital bed receiving IV antibiotics.

My doctors were pretty sure the infection was under control when I was discharged, however, in a matter of two to three days, my leg swelled up once again and the redness returned. I was also having breathing problems and felt a tightness in my chest - I’m a pretty active and healthy girl but all of a sudden I couldn’t walk a block without stopping to catch my breath. Back to the ER I went, where it was discovered I had congestive heart failure and was admitted to cardiac ICU - a rare thing for someone my age and health level. Over the next five days my doctors continued to treat the cellulitis as they pulled 10 pounds of fluid out of my body that had built up due to the heart failure.

It’s been a very challenging medical year, which started with laser surgery in my eyes to control over-growing blood vessels (a surgery that needs to be repeated within the next few months). This past spring I suffered from a fracture in each foot at the same time. Type 1 diabetes is a complicated and expensive medical condition all on its own but in addition to caring for that, I have to take about 10 pills a day to keep my heart and body healthy.

My medical bills are mounting, especially those connected to the hospital stay, cellulitis and heart failure; I was somehow able to juggle everything and get by until the cellulitis and heart failure hit. The heart failure causes extreme fatigue and takes some time to recover from, which means that I’m limited to part-time income until I am fully functioning and able to return to full-time hours.

On top of all of this, I live in San Francisco and am a victim of the ridiculously expensive housing market brought on by the tech influx (one bedrooms go for $3,000/month these days). I was forced out of my apartment about a year and a half ago so that the landlord could triple the rent. Since then I’ve lived in a series of sublets around the city - some for a couple of months, others for a couple of days. With my medical bills being what they are, I’ve not been able to gather the funds necessary to cover move-in costs for a permanent home. Not having a “home” is incredibly stressful in itself, but on top of numerous medical problems, it is unbearable. I would love to be able to have a place where I can feel comfortable, safe and grounded while my body heals.

Additionally, I am a writer and to add insult to injury, my computer (Mac) died a few weeks ago and I’m currently using a 14-year old PC laptop, which severely limits the work and services that I can provide for my clients.

I would be most grateful and thankful for your help in getting me back on my feet!! I am much more comfortable being the person that provides help rather than the one asking for it, but helping me to get back on my feet will allow me to pay it forward - over and over and over.

**WISH LIST items would be a Mac laptop (used but good working condition, of course) and a decent place to stay for a while in San Francisco at an affordable price.

Medical records, or any other form of validation that I can possibly provide, are available to be posted upon request.

Much love,
Beth
