Fund for NEPAL's earthquake victims

PLEASE HELP NEPAL'S EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS BY DONATING!!! One dollar is worth ~100 Nepali rupees, so yes, even a dollar would mean a lot in this time of need.

On Saturday, April 25th, a powerful earthquake of 7.9 magnitude hit near the capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu. Following the major earthquake, more than 50 aftershocks have been felt including a 6.7 magnitude. As many as 7000 people have lost their lives so far, and the numbers are still climbing. Thousands have been injured, stripped away from their loved ones, left without roof over their heads, and sadly without food, water, and supplies necessary for survival. It is a heartbreaking and devastating time for all of us, the Nepalese currently going through this difficult ordeal in Nepali land and Nepalese all around the world who are far away from home feeling helpless in front of Mother Nature. Relief efforts and rescue missions are providing as much aid as possible to the people in the affected regions, and many nations have pledged and mobilized their support team to Nepal. Although full details on the extent of damage are still underway, a few emerging reports suggest the need for tremendous amount of rescue and relief efforts in Kathmandu as well as remote parts of Nepal that were in close proximity to the epicenter.

Nepal is one of the most beautiful and historically  affluent countries in the world despite being one of the poorest economically, but unfortunately, the recent natural disaster has brought the country down to rubble. A huge struggle lies ahead for the country, and it will need all the help it can possibly receive to get back on its feet. More so, there is an absolute need for immediate relief funds in order to provide basic needs such as food, water, and shelter (tents) to the people who have lost everything, in many cases one or more of their loved ones, except the clothes hanging on their shoulders. In this difficult situation, people come together to help those in need, and with many others doing all they can to help vicitims in Nepal, the Nepalese Student Association at Louisiana State University as well as the Baton Rouge Nepalese community would like to appeal YOU to help us provide the necessary relief fund needed in Nepal. We NEED your HELP! Your small/big donation can make a huge difference. Every dollar, every penny will be hugely appreciated.

Where will the money go? The collected will be delivered to the International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) and Empower Nepal Foundation (http://www.empowernepal.net/).
"The ICRC is supporting the Nepal Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies in their response to the escalating needs of families and affected communities in Nepal. This includes restoring contact between family members separated by the earthquake, providing critical first aid support and assisting with the management of dead bodies."-https://www.icrc.org/en/document/nepal-earthquake

"Empower Nepal Foundation (ENF), an IRC 501(c)(3) non-profit organization incorporated in1996 with the State of Minnesota, is dedicated to bring people and resources together for Nepal." Our NSA Faculty advisor Dr. Bijaya Karki is currently serving as one of the ENF directors and  he will be coordinating the fund transfer directly to ENF. The money will be used to support local communities' efforts for school reconstruction in earthquake affected areas of Nepal.

Finally, there are many ways you can help, and one is by donating to other great organizations, both in national and international level, that are actively engaged in earthquake rescue and relief activities, and they need more and more funds to continue providing the needed help.

We are very grateful for all the support and assistance coming from the global community, and we truly appreciate it. Our prayers and thoughts goes out to all the families and friends in Nepal, and everyone affected by this destructive earthquake in India, China, and Bangladesh.

Sincerely,
NSA@LSU team
