Dear Friends, Family, and Colleagues –

I am asking for your help…

Michelle, my wife and partner of 27 years, beat ovarian cancer six years ago. We were very grateful for Michelle’s recovery. What we didn't anticipate was the impact the chemotherapy would have on her. She had very bad chemo brain and it took her years to bounce back from her treatment, much less look for and find a job.

While Michelle was going through chemo, I was working a full-time job that got us through, but just barely. Then I was laid off in March 2014 and have been unable to find permanent work since. With both of us out of work for so long, we went through our savings and struggled to stay in our home. Finally, in February 2016, Michelle got a full-time job with benefits and we began to stabilize financially.  Then in August we found out that Michelle has had a recurrence of the cancer. She is undergoing chemotherapy once again, which is having a significant impact on her ability to work, and our financial situation. How much Michelle can work affects whether we can keep our health insurance, which is so important, especially right now.  In the meantime, I continue looking for work.

The worst part of this is the trauma of having this disease return when you think you’ve got it beat.  And it has come back with a vengeance; Michelle has three tumors in inoperable locations, so the chemo has to do its job. I wish I could tell you that things have gone smoothly, but they haven’t.  In the two months since Michelle started treatment, there have been two procedures on her kidney, two unexpected hospital stays, two unexpected trips to the ER, three chemo changes, and several additional previously unplanned tests performed. The impact this is having goes beyond the emotional, physical and psychological. We are not able to manage the additional cost of these complications, and we are struggling to pay our bills, and are worried about being able to stay in our home. This added stress is so bad for Michelle’s health and well-being.

I have set up this Go Fund Me page to ask for your help because it’s so hard to go through this and focus on Michelle’s treatment and care while worrying about keeping our home and paying our increasing medical bills. My hope is that with the help of donations from you, our friends, family and colleagues, we can concentrate on Michelle’s treatment and recovery.  No amount is too small… Any amount you can give would be greatly appreciated as we deal with this nightmare once again. I am fully aware that many people are in tough situations as well, so positive thoughts and prayers are also happily accepted, and with deep gratitude.

Thank you all!

With love and gratitude,

Denise
