'Monster' Production Fund

Hello Everyone!

This page is a fund for the production of a student written film 'Monster' (previously titled Heartbreak Hill), that is being crewed by Emerson Students and performed by actors from all over New England!

Synopsis: Casey is a reckless 19-year-old girl living in Boston in the Spring of 2013. Frustrated and alone, Casey keeps bars around her heart and refuses to let anyone in, acting out in disrespectful and harmful ways. It is not until the Boston Marathon attack, which brings a young man Jake into her life, that she begins to question her ways. Jake is a strong individual who teaches Casey how to feel again; and with his help that she comes to find the courage to admit that her actions have been wrong, and finds a new way to cope with her emotions that is healthy and unwavering.

What I am attempting to do with this film is use Casey's story as a metaphor to talk about the Boston Marathon attack. In the beginning of the film, Casey's actions are violent, self-destructive and an act of betrayal, much like April 15th in Boston. As her storyline pans out-- through that week-- it parallels her recovery with the recovery of the city, and her trials with the trials of Boston. A fugitive of her own feelings, it is not until the unforgettable Friday night that Casey is metaphorically "Captured", and unable to escape her remorse. With danger out of the way, now it is only time that will heal her.

The week of April 15th went differently for all of us. There are thousands of stories, none of which are the same. Whether we were injured physically, mentally or in any other way, shape or form, we were all victims that week. This is just one victim's story.

For some of you, it may be too soon to contribute to a film like this, and that is perfectly OK. The truth is there will never be a right time, it will always be too soon. But to me, making films is about getting people in touch with their emotions. And if I can make you feel something with this film then I have done my job as a filmmaker.

Donations will go towards transportation for crew, crafty (food on set), equipment, production design, wardrobe etc. We will also use any left over money to support entering the film into festivals as we see fit.

Thank you for reading, and considering a donation.
