Half Crazy To Stomp Out Cancer

We are running 50 Half Marathons in all 50 States (1 in each state) to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Everyone has been touched by cancer in some way. Either you have fought the battle, a relative, neighbor or co-worker. Someone you know has cancer and fighting or has fought and lost their battle. Our mission is to STOMP OUT CANCER ONE STEP AND ONE STATE AT A TIME! Please help us by donating any amount - there's no amount too small!

Here's our story:

Two high school friends from Seneca Falls, NY, Lisa Scialdone and Janet Alcorn-Yankosky, having a common goal and passion, combined forces for one mission.

Janet lives in Wilson, NC: “I have always been active, but about 3 years ago, I started getting serious.  Due to circulation issues, I was told that exercise was the best course of action for me.  I went to a bootcamp and began running regularly.  I met a friend who encouraged me to race, and did a few 5Ks and a mudrun.  I was challenged by this friend, as well as another, to complete my first half marathon.  I completed it in April 2012, and I was hooked. “

Lisa lives in Auburn, NY: “I’ve always been a year round athlete, however, I never ran “just because”.  It wasn’t until much later in life when my sister called me up and said, “Mom has cancer”, that I became like Forest Gump and started to run. I just felt like I needed to run. It helped with my anger. I joined Team in Training with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and ran my first full marathon in Lake Placid, NY. I trained with purpose, my mother, my motivator, always in my head with each step I took.”

After both registering for the Philadelphia Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon (our 1st state ran in September, 2012) and training began, Lisa was having trouble keeping motivated.  Feeling empty and running without purpose, Janet shared that she also has a parent who’s fighting cancer and had a half crazy idea of doing the 50 half’s in 50 states challenge. She invited Lisa to join her in this goal, the idea was BORN. They both were going to accomplish this goal together, WITH A CAUSE!

For every person that’s battling cancer and for those who lost that battle AND for everyone who is affected by cancer in any way shape or form, YOU ARE the reason we’re going to stomp out cancer, one STEP AND state at a time!!!
