An Experience of a Lifetime for our South Arlington VA Public School Students....
In 4 weeks, 16 of our very motivated and hardworking Upper Elementary Montessori students (4th,5th & 6th) from Drew Model Elementary, a Title 1 school, & Gunston Middle School, will be attending their second Montessori Model United Nations International Conference in New York City. MMUN is a multi-day Montessori global peace education experience that puts Montessori students into the role of delegates for the UN.
We need your help!
For a number of reasons, fundraising at Drew has been a challenge. Drew is a high-poverty, Title I public school in South Arlington, Virginia with children from all over the county attending the Montessori program. The kids and parents are working hard to make sure all of the MMUN team can go to the conference , regardless of ability to pay. We are $8,000 away from our goal of getting the children to New York City -- but time is of the essence! Payments to attend the March 2018 conference are due and our fund rasing has stalled!
Montessori Model UN is a simulation of the UN General Assembly and other multicultural bodies. Our students, will step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN member states to debate current issues on the organization's agenda. While playing their roles as ambassadors, our student delegates make speeches, prepare draft resolutions, negotiate with allies and adversaries, resolve conflicts - all in the interest of mobilizing international cooperation to resolve problems that affect countries all over the world. MMUN is truly a quintessential Montessori experience.
We need your help!
Given the continued divisiveness in so much of the world, giving these children an opportunity to be a part of this conference can bring a life changing experience through the cultivation of the values underlying peace, respect for others and the environment, gender equality, cultural understanding, problem solving, critical thinking, and negotiation.
These children are our future. Please help them explore the power of thier own voice.
