Welcome to our Campaign!

Who are we?
Gravity Players is a core group of Equity & Non-Equity actors dedicated to creating works of immense substance that shed light on and raise questions and consciousness about the human condition.  Founded by Courtney Lomelo, Patricia Duran, Luis Galindo and James Belcher. Last year the founders of Gravity Players partnered with Obsidian Theatre to bring you "The Motherf**ker with the Hat" by Stephen Adly Guirgis.

The First Show
We are thrilled to announce our production of "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot", an MPC  Equity Showcase production, written by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis. This play is a powerful piece of writing that deals with despair, guilt, mercy, forgivness, and the efficacy of divine love.

 Synopsis
What has become of Jesus’ most notorious follower? In this dark comedy, time and space bend in a provocatively poignant quest to decide Judas' fate. Set in a courtroom in Purgatory, an uproarious cast of characters from Heaven and Hell swarm the stage to determine whether he has any grounds for redemption. This compassionate second look at Christian ideology offers urban street poetry, side splitting laughs, and ambitious debate.

" Thomas Merton said, 'To be a saint means to be myself.' What if that were true? What is it we need to overcome in order to truly be "Ourselves?" I won't pretend at all that this play answers that question, but if it provokes the questions in you, then please let it. Ponder it. Because we need you."

"Stephen Adly Guirgis has written a real jaw-dropper...expressionistic fantasy...raw language and flamboyantly street- savvy characters...his imagination is dazzling and his command of language downright thrilling." —Variety

"An extraordinary play...not since Angels in America have I seen a play so unafraid to acknowledge the power of the spirit..." —The Guardian (UK).

What is MPC?
A Members Project Code production is an Actors' Equity Association member produced show. All the participants are considered collaboraters, not employees. Which means we need YOUR support to make this project a success.

Our Goal
Launching "The Last Days of Judas Iscariot", we endeavour to produce diverse works that celebrate culture, language, and ideas.

How do we do that?
By choosing challenging, evocative works that show us who we are as human beings, in other words, plays that "hold as 'twere the mirror up to nature."
Additionally by bringing the highest possible production value we can offer to our audience in regards to casting, directing, set design, lighting, music, etc.

Why are we doing this?

Because Theatre Matters. Because Artists Matter.

Theatre is one of the oldest art forms known to man. Storytelling has always played an important part in human existence and is still wildly popular today. Why? With the social media overload, super-hero blockbusters, single-serve, fast-food consumer culture we still take time to go to the theater to be reminded of who we are, why we are alive and what we are living for.  Audiences play an essential part by bearing witness to these stories. It is an event that takes place in the here and now. It exists only in that moment - where one can feel the molecules in the air change - in that sacred, shared space between the actor and the audience.
