Marie has had several operations since I last posted. Her left arm continues to improve and she is painting with her right arm. Her amazing Dr. K is concerned that she is not gaining enough weight for him to patch up a hole in her windpipe and feels she is probably fighting a low level infection all the time. She will have a tube put in her chest to drain fluid and have to live with that for a while too.
Her spirits are good and she is able to paint. She has to work in bed to be comfortable, so she has been making a series of 5x7 watercolor cards. I encourage working in series and working small, having just done 30 6x6 paintings myself I called "instagrams". She is exploring the beauty of color, pattern and symmetry, not surprising in her work. Lovely jewels.
Her financial outlook is good and bad. The bad is that there is really no one to sue. We have gone over the case with the lawyer. The insurance company of the driver at fault is paying a small amount each week and that will be exhausted in the fall. There is not enough evidence to sue the city for an unsafe intersection. The good news is that she still has insurance from her work. Because of your generous contributions, we have kept up the COBRA and 1.5 million in medical bills has been paid out. Thanks folks, it all helps.
The good news is that she will be getting Social Security Disability benefits. The bad news is that it is really not enough for her expenses. The good news is, there is a bit left from GoFund and a bit more in her savings.
What will happen in the long term is hard to see as yet, so I will not make anything up. We all get survive because we have something to give, to exchange with others. Marie has amazing talent and has a will to get better and survive. Where that will take her is an uncharted course. Your ongoing encouragement welcome. Keep in touch with her, you are all so important to us.

They had started out in her garage last summer. She even danced! Go girl! A day to celebrate LOVE!...

For those who don't know, Euphoria was run over by a truck on the night of 10/29 as she was leaving work. Every rib was broken and the hospital had to remove her right lung. She is still at St. Joseph's hospital in ICU. She is a strong person and shows signs of recovery each day, though it will be a long process.

Marie has received incredible care from the staff at St. Joseph's for over two weeks in ICU now. Today she was able to open her eyes and respond to my presence, amazing moments. She is beginning to take important steps towards recovery, but it will be a long journey yet. Her daughter and her sister were able to visit her this weekend, voices she heard and presences that have given her strength, not to mention many local friends. Thank you all so much for your role in this healing process of our dear Euphoria Marie.
