Greeting friends, family, colleagues and loved ones of Doug Akers!
Thank you for your prayers, thoughts and help during this time. Doug has been such a wonderful and important part of so many lives. He is a loving son, brother and loyal friend. His passion throughout is life has been in the hospitality industry with a focus on theme parks.
I am sure some of the most memorable times you had as a child growing up were at a theme park. Whether it was being higher than you ever had been on Dumbo at Disney or experiencing your first real roller coaster, I think we can all remember where we were. Douglas had such a love for it, he wanted to do it everyday and continue to make the best memories of people’s lives. Not only for those who visit the park, but those who have had the honor of working with him.
He has followed his passion for the past 17 years. It began with Busch Gardens in Tampa, and most recently took him to Singapore, where he has been for the past 6 years with Resorts World Sentosa. He is the Director of Operations of Universal Studios and also a vital part of 3 other marine parks in Singapore. He began with the Universal Studios family in 2004 (Orlando).
Doug is the type of person to always work hard and do for others. Today is the day that we bond together as his supported family and give to him.
While in Singapore doing what he loves (working), he was taken to the hospital where he has been for several days. A large brain tumor was discovered and it will need to be surgically removed immediately. It is going to be a long and expensive process and recovery for Doug and his family.
We are asking for any type of donation to help with the process. Please never feel any amount is too small. If Doug or an Akers family member has touched your heart in some way, please take the time to give up one small thing (Starbucks, glass of wine, pedicure) in your day or week and make a donation.
