GB Age Group: Racing for YoungMinds

Donation protected
In late 2013 I decided to challenge myself and sign up to participate in an Ironman triathlon (3.8km swim, 180km bike, 42.2km run/marathon) as part of a fund raising effort for Macmillan Cancer Research. I had never participated in a triathlon or anything similar in the past. The commitment to successfully completing Ironman sparked a passion for multi-sport racing and I began racing more events.

As I learnt more about the sport I developed an interest in Great Britain representation at international level and discovered the Age Group programme for non-elite, but high performing athletes to participate and represent their country.

On Saturday 27th May 2017 I made my international age group debut, racing the European Aquathlon Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia. The race went better than I could have ever imagined, finishing 7th overall in age-group and 2nd GB athlete, earning automatic qualification to the 2018 European Championsips in Ibiza.

In July 2018 I made my debut on the world stage, racing at the ITU Aquathlon World Championships in Denmark, placing 7th overall in age-group and 2nd GB athlete (a theme running here!). This result earns automatic qualification to the 2019 World Championships in Spain.

I have a strong personal interest in the work of organisations that support young people's mental health. As such, much of my promotional work moving forwards will be focused on raising awareness of, and fund raising to support the work of, YoungMinds (www.youngminds.org.uk).
