The David Martins Peace Foundation is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2010 after the tragic loss of David S. Martins to gun violence. David was born and raised in Dorchester, MA and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1998. Like most young men who grow up in this neighborhood, the threat of gun violence was very real. Sadly his life was cut short despite doing his best to stay away from the growing violence in his community.
David’s life paints a real picture of how difficult it is for young men in the inner city of Boston to stay on a straight path when the pressures of violence are constantly surrounding them. It is the Foundation’s goal to provide a range of support for young men in the community. The support is intended to provide the young men an opportunity to live out their dreams and become everything that society tells them they cannot.
It is with great honor that we announce the official David S. Martins Scholarship. This scholarship award is specific to a male graduating senior from Charlestown High School who demonstrates great character, leadership, courage, a heart for his community and economic need. This award will be paid directly to the student’s college or university of choice to help with any costs associated with the student’s educational needs.
This years recipient is an extrodinary young man who has overcome the death of his mother to breast cancer by turning his pain into a passion for basketball. Tyrone Jackson is honoring his mothers final wishes by graduating high school and starting college this fall. The David Martins Peace Foundation aims to make this transition easier for him by helping with the cost of his education.
With all that Tyrone has overcome at such a young age we are so pleased to be able to assist him. We are asking for donations that will go directly to Tyrone for his fall tuition. There is no doubt that he will become successful and superceed his mothers wishes for his life. Any amount given is appreciated.
