Chromebooks for Kids

Introductions
My name is John Evans and I'm 3rd grade teacher at Symons Elementary School in Milan, Michigan.   Last year my 3rd graders started a Go Fund Me campaign: "Chromebooks for Kids".
They did some amazing things to help get our campaign up and running.  Our GENEROUS donors helped us raise almost $3,000.00.

My new 3rd graders are ready to work hard seeking donors and finish what was started.

The Problem
A huge problem we face is that our netbooks are becoming outdated, slow, and or broken.   Our goal here is not to blame anyone for the problem, but to simply be proactive.  My district has done a great job supporting the technology we have.  However, it is getting more difficult as these older machines breakdown and become obsolete.   As I have changed as an educator, the students have changed as learners.  I want to continue to give them the necessary skills to be successful in the future.
Furthermore, the students get extremely frustrated with slower processing and connection speeds of these outdated machines.  Many of these computers  have audio jacks that have broken from the normal wear and tear.  This makes it very difficult for students to watch videos, listen to tutorials, and not disturb  their peers.

What We Need

We need $9,600. to purchase a class set of 32 Google Chromebooks and a charging station.  Money raised from this campaign will be given directly to the school district, which will then purchase the devices specifically for my classroom.  My students will then have access to a Chromebook each day at school and at home.
This campaign is not just for "New Stuff". This campaign is about being able to put new and reliable technology in my student's hands and prepare them for the 21st Century.

Here's an itemization of how the $9,600. will be used:

32 Google Chromebooks @ $262 a piece .

32 Unit Charging Station @ $1,200.

32 Protective Cases for home to school $650 (covered, not needed)

Promotional Material @ $300 (Not needed this is complete)

Why do 3rd Graders need Chromebooks?
1. Milan Area Schools is a Google District
2. My students can collaborate on documents, projects, and videos.
3. They can use their creativity with pictures, presentations, and drawings.
4. They can take virtual fieldtrips, conduct research, and problem solve.
4.They are cheap compared to laptops ($262 per unit)
5.They only run a web-browser, (or Google Based) so they are super fast, no software to purchase or maintain
6. Their batteries hold a charge for a very long time
7. They are extremely durable

The Impact
When you donate to this campaign you will be making an immediate, direct, and positive impact in the lives of many students. There is no middle man here. You will be giving straight to the source. These Chromebooks will be used by all of my students on a daily basis to conduct research, write papers, participate in online communities, do creative projects, etc.

All of my students from my class will be using the Chromebooks daily throughout the curriculum

My students will no longer need the netbook cart so it will have the potential to be in another classroom.

When this campaign is funded, my classroom will be the only classroom at Symons Elementary to have their own Chromebook Cart.
They are learning to confront their problems head on, to have imagination, and believe that they can create change.
