Carnival Medea goes to Edinburgh!

CARNIVAL MEDEA goes to Edinburgh, Scotland!

CARNIVAL MEDEA: A Bacchanal written by Shirlene Holmes and Rhoma Spencer. Choreography by Natalie Joseph-Settle. Performance at Georgia State University.

Georgia State University (GSU) will be presenting the theatrical production, CARNIVAL MEDEA: A Bacchanal which is an adaptation of the Euripides tragedy written by GSU professor, Dr. Shirlene Holmes and performing artist Rhoma Spencer.  GSU’s Communication Department has been a great support since the production’s inception in 2003. This year CARNIVAL MEDEA was performed twice at GSU and was recently invited to be presented at the International Collegiate Theatre Fest (ICTF) in Edinburgh, Scotland August 5th through the 16th 2015. This will be the first time Georgia State University presents a theatrical production at the festival and we need your support in making this monumental event happen!

Georgia State University plans to take twenty-one students and production assistants to the ICTF festival. Each student who performs or works on the production is required to raise up to $5,800 to attend the International Collegiate Theatre Festival in August 2015.

WE NEED YOUR HELP TO GET TO EDINDURGH!

Our GoFund me campaign will assist the students and crew in making their first payment in January 2015. Help us reach our goal of raising  $10,000 by January 5th!

Money raised will cover each participant’s festival fees, air fare, ground transportation, accommodations, and emergency funds while in Scotland. Your generous contribution would allow a student to be one step closer to becoming a participant and being a part of a major cultural experience.

For your contribution, the logo of your company will be placed on any printed or published material. When GSU travels to Edinburgh in 2015, potentially over 40,000 persons may see your logo on CARNIVAL MEDEA t-shirts and printed materials.

THANK YOU,

CARNIVAL MEDEA CAST AND CREW!

ABOUT CARNIVAL MEDEA!
CARNIVAL MEDEA is adapted from the Euripides tragedy by Shirlene Holmes and Rhoma Spencer. In this retelling of the Classic Greek drama, Holmes and Spencer set the ancient myth of a woman scorned  in the carnival tradition of Trinidad. The carnival archetypes are brought to life in the characters of the play, creating an exploration of a woman who must balance the Orisha’s warning her head or unleash terrible violence on those around her. Featuring music and dance by Trinidadian choreographer Natalie Settle– Joseph, Carnival Medea interprets an old story through the African diaspora and the multicultural heart of the Caribbean, Trinidad.
