Caring for Carey has been started by friends to support a strong, optimistic young woman Jennifer (Kahn) Carey of Norwood, MA in her journey to fight an aggressive form of brain cancer, an anaplastic oligodendroglioma.
A little bit about Jen:
After graduating from Farmington High School in 1997 Jen went on to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy through Vassar College and Boston University. Jen is a fun loving, easy spirited, always optimistic 32 year old loving wife and mother of two boys under the age of three. Recently diagnosed this past December of 2011, with an aggressive brain tumor, we hope to offer celebration, hope and inspiration for her and her family. The tumor was successfully removed just after Christmas and she has been recovering since. Despite the removal, Jen's brain tumor has aggressive re-growth rates and has been classified as a stage 3-4 anaplastic oligodendroglioma. Seeking out multiple opinions and treatments, the Kahn and Carey families collectively decided on a clinical program offered by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Sloan has consistently been recognized around the world for excellence and ranked as one of the world's top cancer centers. The leading physicians working on her case believe that this trial is the best from both quality of life and outcome perspectives.

She has begun chemotherapy in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving husband Eric and two sons, Tyler and Trevor. After travelling to New York City each month for six months, Jen will then move to New York City for a long six weeks in late summer to undergo the next, more intensive, phase of the "clinical" portion of this trial.

We hope to offer an open forum for dialog and support for Jen and her family while raising money for her treatment costs and household expenses. Since her tumor removal, Jen has been unable to work. This will continue throughout all phases of the trial. Your support will allow Jen and her family the alleviation of some financial burden and allow for them to concentrate on what is important.... their family, friends, treatment and further recovery.

Please join us in sending Jen, Eric, Tyler, and Trevor and words of encouragement, love and support as their new journey of hope begins.

Fundraising opportunities will be posted via this page periodically as well as donations accepted anytime.
