Hello friends and family and thanks for checking out my GoFundMe page! On May 15, 2016 I'll be leaving Pittsburgh, PA on a life changing adventure. I'll be spending the summer working on organic farms with an organization called World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) . This GoFundMe is my chance to share this journey with you and ask for your support in covering my travel expenses as I drive 9,000 and work with small scale farmers who have dedicated their lives and land to sustainable, organic farming.
To give you an idea of the spaces I'll be staying check out my first stop, Intentional Farms near Atlanta, GA, and my tentative map (which I'll improve in the coming days):
I've always been surrounded by a family of avid gardners and the idea of being self-sustainable is a thread that has carried my whole life through. My passion for this field was deepend during my studies in Economics and Communication at the University of Pittsburgh, especially as I dove into analyzing the US Farm Bill and farming subsidies over the past few years.
I plan to use this trip to light a fire and help me decide exactly how I want to use the gifts and education I'm so lucky to have. The knowledge I'll gain will be expansive and my hope is to bring that back to Pittsburgh and apply it to strengthen our communities through active stewardship to our land and our people.
I'm using this GoFundMe to raise money to cover travel expenses, which you can imagine will be significant since I'll be driving 9,000 miles. I truly appreciate whatever you feel you can donate to my cause, and if you can't, then certainly reach out to connect with me before I hit the road to farm the frontier!!! This is the chance of a lifetime and I'm excited that I get to share it with you!
