The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity launched in August to celebrate Josh's 13th Birthday and to help Josh to give help to other children with brain tumours and post-surgery disabilities with advice, support and financial solutions.
Josh Wilson from Bury, has a reoccurring brain tumour and complex neuromuscular disabilities following surgery. He has been nicknamed #SuperJosh by the public and with his new superhero status uses his special powers to help other children with brain tumours.
On Monday 16 December, Police Superintendent Keith Fraser, Chair of The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity will be joined by Josh colleagues from West Midlands Ambulance, Fire and Police services along with members of the public for a one day Challenge event.
The #Brum13peakchallenge will take place across Birmingham City Centre throughout the day and the event will be raising money for a new family room as part of the new Cancer suite at Birmingham Children's Hospital."¯
Birmingham Children's Hospital is a leading cancer centre, and is responsible for treating around 15% of all children in the UK who are diagnosed with cancer. "¯
"We have a fundraising target of £10k to pay for the new family room within the new Cancer suite. Currently families do not have anywhere private to go to be told about bad news "“ they may hear their child has a brain tumour in the canteen due to lack of private facilities "“ this will change that. All those completing the challenge will be dressed as super heroes. It will be a fun-filled, community event raising awareness and funds for a fantastic cause," said Keith.
Founder of the Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity Dawn Fidler and mum of Josh, said: "It's going to be a fantastic day. Josh is really looking forward to it and we are proud to be able to make a difference and help families in Birmingham area who are affected by brain tumours."
Birmingham Children's Hospital Public Fundraising Manager, Vikki Savery, said: "We were delighted when Keith told us of his plans to support our £4m Children's Cancer Centre Appeal. The money from the appeal will help to make significant improvements to our cancer unit which sees 3,000 cancer patients and their families from across the UK every year. The current facility is over 30 years old and has completely outgrown its current environment.
"We are over half way towards that £4million goal and the money that Keith and his colleagues are working hard to raise is going to help us to get even closer to making our dreams a reality and to give the unit a dedicated family room. "
The new facilities and accommodation will include age-appropriate play zones, better communal areas for families and an improved Outpatient area, which is now busier than ever before.
The challenge "“ which is supported by The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, The Police and Crime Commissioner and Chief Constable "“ will kick start outside Birmingham Children's Hospital on Steelhouse Lane at 9.30am and will then move across the city centre with Keith taking on his challenge to climb 13 floors of 13 highest buildings in Birmingham "“ fundraising along the way!
Hyatt Regency Birmingham are supporting Keith's challenge and have very generously donated a prize of 1 nights accommodation in a suite for two people including a full English breakfast and dinner in aria restaurant for two. Worth over £600 that can be won on the day, by taking part in our competition and guessing how many steps Keith will make in total on December 16th.
The day will start at 9.30am outside Birmingham Children's Hospital and end at 5pm at Brimingham Police HQ Lloyd Street
