Bonnie - IPF/Lung Transplant Fund

Donation protected
My mom, Bonnie Scaife, was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF ) last summer. IPF  is a progressive and deadly lung disease with no treatments or cures available.  Fibrosis, a scarring which takes over
the lungs, quickly causes the person to get less and less oxygen, this in turn causes difficulty breathing, loss of mobility and function.  This is a terminal illness. The only option for an IPF patient is a double lung transplant.

As of April 15th my Mom's insurance has
authorized the transplant. As we wait for the call to be listed & the donor lungs to be available other concerns have surfaced.

The transplant itself is risky, if she pulls through the surgery there is still further risk of her body rejecting the lungs.  All post transplant patients are put on autoimmune suppressants to help the body not reject the new lungs as a foreign object but this also leaves the body vulnerable to other sickness, disease, bacteria, etc.

The recovery is beyond hard.  The medications, doctors visits, respiratory rehab, painful procedures/ tests &
round the clock care is a major deterrent for most patients when they are told the body can reject the new lungs at any time.  Due to all of the above concerns and possible complications, some IPF  patients decide the risks outweigh the reward.  I'm happy to report that's not the case for my mom, she's a fighter.  She is a tiny woman with a huge heart and an iron will.  Mom is ready to wage war on this disease and go through whatever
it takes to try to beat this and not leave us yet. My mom is determined and incredibly brave, she's already been through so much.  The one thing that this fight takes besides bravery & willingness is support; emotional & financial. This is where we need help.

I can't give you a concrete list of the costs
that are going to be racked up during & after this transplant. Even now, pre-transplant we need financial help with at home caretakers, oxygen tanks, medications, etc.  The amount of time & money we may need to dedicate to her care is likely going to be extremely high. The insurance unfortunately can't cover everything we need.

Mom originally did not want a fundraiser. Having this information put out to all is not easy for her but we are determined to do whatever it takes to help. I love my mom so much and I'm really scared that we can't provide everything she needs to get through this. I can't give up now, not when She is fighting for her life. I'm asking for prayers and help.

P.S.
I want to be entirely transparent and honest when it comes to this fundraiser. I have learned through research that donation's are not deductible as a charitable contribution. I would also like to be clear that we cannot offer anything in return. All we can do is be thankful to all that can and are willing to help.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

God Bless.
