Hi everyone, our daughter's name is Zoey. She is a very unique child. Not only does she have a bilateral cleft lip and palate, but also treacher collins syndrome, pierre robbins syndrome, bilateral hearing loss, and micrognathia. She is currently one year old. She most recently had a mandibular distraction to open her airway on 02/27/18. This was done in place of a tracheostomy. Hopefully when this surgery heals in 2-3 months, the doctors will be able to perform another cleft repairment surgery. She has had a G-tube placement for feeding, and an unsuccessful cleft lip repair.
Although Medicaid pays for her medical expenses, financially we were not prepared for a situation like this. Megan and I, Charles, both have full time jobs. Unfortunately, Medicaid and Government assitance will not help with the day to day operations taking care of this baby. We know it is our responsibilty to see to it that our daughter is well taken care of and we are doing our best, but it seems as though as soon as we get one step ahead we fall back three steps. We are asking for help so our family might be able to get ahead of these issues and our children may become something better than us. Isn't that what we all want as parents.
As of right now, we do not have a vehicle. As I said before, we both work full time. We have a 5 year old daughter, Natalie, as well. We are currently living with my in-laws in a 2 bedroom trailer. This has been a great help, but there is not enough room for all of Zoey's machines, crib, Natalie's bed and our bed in one room. Not to mention the toys and clothes these kiddos have. I travel 30 miles to work 6 days a week. If I am lucky enough to get a ride for the week, it usually cost an arm and a leg.Our daughter's appointments are usually in New Orleans, LA, 100 miles away, and occasionally in Jackson, MS. When she has her surgeries, we both miss at least a week of work. So we are losing money and having to spend extra on rooms and food.
We Desperately need a dependable vehicle. and we need a place that is big enough for our growing family. Not all of her medication is covered by Medicaid and the ones that aren't are very expensive. For a very long time we have been playing catch up. For once in our family we would like to be caught up so we can make a future for our children. Anything you can afford, Please help us help our children. Our babies are strong and have already been through a lot, but they are fighters. We are not asking for a handout, but a hand up. Thank you so very much.
