America on two wheels

Let me start off by saying there are worthier charities out there,and please understand that my goal is completely selfish.
As I write this I'm currently deployed, on my second deployment to Southern Afghanistan. I'm getting out of the US Army in the spring of 2015 and before I leave the Military for good I want to take a trip around the country on a motorcycle to get intimate with the country we defended for so long. By the time I plan to set out I'll have spent over 7 years in the service of my country. How do you close a part of your life that's been so meaningful, terrible and so rewarding? I'm not sure but as I look back my need for closure increases. What did it all mean? My time served? The men and women I served with? The soldiers we lost? The country they fought and died for?

I want to see America. I want to see the country we fought so hard to defend, to reconnect with the guys I served with, to find out what it meant to them, to be in the company of people who might understand my desire for closure, to reach out to older veterans and to visit the graves of the guys we lost. Would there be a better way to close that chapter of my life than to see America on two wheels?

I have every intention of doing this trip with or without help, although financial help will let me travel farther, stay on the road longer and possible allow me to stay in a hotel every once in awhile. My current plan is to camp out every night to cut costs. I also plan on taking a laptop and documenting the trip via blog.

Money donated will go towards fuel costs, food, lodging and gear. Any funds left over will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project.
