Alaina's Erbs Palsy
Spende geschützt
My 3 year old daughter Alaina was diagnosed with Erbs Palsy at birth. Alaina's Erbs Palsy was caused by an injury to her Left Brachial Plexus during delivery. For a long time she was unable to move or use her arm like normal babies would. Her physical therapy journey started at just 3 weeks old. Surprisingly she went from having no movement in her left arm to using it for everyday activities, and that's something she had to work hard for! At 6 months she was referred to a surgeon in Houston, Texas for what they call a mod-quad and a triangle tilt. At that time we did not think or feel like she could handle all those surgeries at once. We were told by the surgeon that if we waited until she was a bit older we would be able to see what if any disability she would have in that arm...so we made the decision to wait! Im so very proud and thankful for what shes able to do today, but as expected I am starting to see her struggle in certain areas. Her scapula is now winging out, she does not have full range of motion in that arm, she cannot extend it all the way as it should, and she is now leaving her arm in a raised position all the time without noticing. She also tends to forget if she's holding an object in that hand. As you can see in the picture posted there is a difference in her R and L shoulders and arms. We live in Texas, but a doctor at The Center for Brachial Plexus and Traumatic Nerve Injury at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York is willing to see what minimally invasive procedures can be done to help her. The hospital is a nationally recognized resource, providing diagnostic and reconstructive options for patients with injuries to or dysfunction of the peripheral nerve and brachial plexus. The funds raised will go directly to getting her there in June and for medical expenses as well! Anything helps and Everything is appreciated! Thank You!
