HIV/AIDS Awareness Media in Cambodia

Donation protected
Help fund my trip to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and I will work with media communications technology to combat the spread and stigma of HIV/AIDS. I will also work on media projects which educate citizens of Cambodia about social issues such as women's rights, human rights, availability of health care, and democracy.

Fight Stigma & The Spread of Disease:

The first case of HIV in Cambodia was detected only in 1991, and since there have been over 96,000 people identified to have the HIV virus in Cambodia. Along with a lack of knowledge as to how HIV/AIDS is spread, there is an rampant stigma in Cambodia against those affected.

Help fund my trip to Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and I will work with media communications to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. I will also work on media projects which educate citizens of Cambodia about social issues such as women's rights, human rights, availability of health care, and democracy.

What I Will Be Doing:

When I am in Cambodia, I will be spending 40 hours or more a week completing the following tasks:
- Working with TV and radio production programs to advocate for HIV/AIDS awareness, women's rights, health care, and democracy
- Creating short films and documentaries which will be used in Cambodian public schools about HIV/AIDs
- Developing websites for programs in need of higher exposure in the Phnom Penh community
- Conducting research and producing written publications about HIV/AIDs and Women's Rights
- Fundraising for HIV/AIDs education & treatment programs using these media sources
- Interacting with citizens of Cambodia and the news community in Phnom Penh as an exercise of English education
- Working to relieve the hunger and illness that affects many citizens of Cambodia through volunteer humanity projects

I may also have the unique opportunity of interacting with Children of Phnom Penh by launching my own community program with a grant provided by Love Volunteers Organization. For instance, I could create an after school arts program, or a media/journalism program for young Phnom Penh students-- and this program would last after my departure from Cambodia.

How I Am Doing It

I will be working in Cambodia with several not-for-profit (meaning your donations will not benefit anyone's salary) organizations for a total of 5 weeks, either in May or August of 2014. Once this trip is afforded, I will spend my remaining time in Connecticut and Boston fundraising for relief that I can bring to Cambodia as well as studying Cambodian culture and relief tactics.

I am fortunate to have an education that teaches me multiple methods on how to communicate with mass amounts of people, and through my studies I will ultimately help develop programs that will create a more positive social climate in Phnom Penh as well as a more healthy/educational climate in Cambodian media.

What You Will Receive

For those of you who do not know me, I am an artist and a person who loves writing. As a result, I will put my hands to work in return for a high donation. Depending on the level to which you donate, you will receive different Thank-You rewards which involve visual art, photo, and written pieces from me. These will detail experiences with Cambodian culture, working to fight AIDS stigma and infection, and personal recollections or volunteer experiences which are interesting to readers.

I understand large donations warrant handmade or handwritten prizes, but this is because this is a not-for-profit volunteer opportunity and many of the prizes demand personal funds. Remember: the money you are donating helps me fight AIDS stigma!

* Trying to reach as high as I can towards the $3,500 goal!
