Cultural Well-Being Fundraiser

Dear Friends, Colleagues, and Community Members

Since 1969, The American Indian Community House (AICH) continues to serve as the leading urban Native resource in the New York City Tri-State area, where, according to the 2010 census, there are over 112,000 American Indians and Alaska Natives. AICH serves Native Americans from over 70 different Nations.

The mission of the American Indian Community House is to improve and promote the well-being of the American Indian Community and to increase visibility of American Indian cultures in an urban setting in order to cultivate awareness, understanding and respect. Our Core Values are: Cultural Preservation, Health/Wellness, Education, Employment and Housing.

Since coming on board as Executive Director in July and as Deputy Director since November, 2012, we have continued to move the organization forward, continuing the substantial and dedicated efforts of our former Executive Director, Christine Funmaker-Romano, who retired in June, 2014.

We are very proud to say that in November we launched our TeleHealth program where we now connect Native behavioral health providers to our community members in need. This program was the result of two years of effort by AICH. This past summer, we held two Wings of America fitness and nutrition programs with Shinnecock and Unkechaug Nations youth, and, in collaboration with other local partners, Summer Activity Days for Native youth including camping, hiking and outdoor education. In the winter and spring we sponsor three Socials to provide cultural enrichment and share our heritage. Monthly Elders Luncheons have also continued as key activity for bringing the Native community together. Next December we will also be bringing back our Annual Indian Market in conjunction with La Mama Theatre in downtown Manhattan.

You can be a part of our traditional circle of giving with your gift to the American Indian Community House. With your continued support, you can help make a positive impact on the well-being of many New York City Natives as the American Indian Community House continues to provide care, connections, healing and recovery to those in need.

As always, AICH counts on your support to maintain and expand our efforts. With your gift you will be providing continued critical support to further the American Indian Community House’s vital mission. Please donate your contribution to the American Indian Community House here on Go Fund Me.

Be a part of our circle, and a key supporter of the New York Native Community’s well-being.

Q:  What exactly is my money going towards?

A:  •Elder Luncheons – More than meals, this monthly event creates a meeting space for our Elders and community members to share stories, life lessons, and goals while visiting with each other.

•Community Socials –
These seasonal gatherings provide Culture Enrichment through native singing, dancing, cooking and socializing. AICH Socials are open to all ages.

•Culture Night –
Hands on learning of Native American Arts & Crafts through the expert teachings of local artists, participants enjoy a nutritious health friendly snack while they learn to bead, knit, or speak a native language.

•Veteran Social/Support –
In addition to our Telehealth services, our team at AICH supports the efforts of our Veterans to create outlets for meaningful dialogue to take place in community settings. We thank our veterans and support and promote their wellbeing. We honor their commitment and dedication as much as possible.

•Youth Activities –
Throughout the year, we plan activities to expose urban youth to nature, and inspire not only healthy habits of food and exercise but to learn history and culture as the foundation to wellness -  physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Q:  Will my contribution only go to Native Americans?

A:  We are a Native American based non-profit organization; our focus is towards American Indians/Alaskan Natives. All of our events are open to the public of all ages.  AICH has large scale events throughout the year including a pow wow & 5K Run, if you are interested in sponsoring one of these events please indicate that on your paypal form, included in the comments of your donation, or in the memo of your check, or paypal.

Q:  Don't you have government assistance?
A:  AICH receives both Federal and State Funding for our health specific programs.   All of our community based activities such as Culture Nights, Socials, Elders Luncheons, etc. are limited to fundraising outside the government funding structure.  Additional funds supplement & enhance our community based events & activities that are open to the public and help us reach and expand our cultural reach.
