Help us make history for LGBT rights in Macedonia! By funding our wedding project, you will bring us a step closer to our goal: initiating a public discussion about same-sex civil unions in our country of residence.

Me and my fiancé met on GayRomeo in April 2011. We were on Skype for a few months until we decided to live together. He moved into my place on September 15th 2011. Shortly after, on October 28th 2011, we got engaged and exchanged engagement rings. We still live together and love each other endlessly. We endured all the difficulties we had after my public coming out as an openly gay actor in my country, Macedonia (my family home was stoned twice by a mob and death threats keep coming all the time). We're both dedicated to human rights activism and always will.

We've always wanted to get married but it cannot happen here in Macedonia (my homeland) nor Serbia (my fiancé's homeland). We would like to set an example in this homophobic and transphobic society we currently live in that love always wins no matter what obstacles we have to face, we can always find a way to be happy. We want to encourage the LGBTI people to come out, speak up, live freely and be true to themselves.

Croatia recognizes life partnerships for same-sex couples through Life Partnership Act, making same-sex couples equal to married couples in everything except adoption. Croatian Parliament passed the new law on 15 July 2014, taking effect in two stages (5 August 2014 and 1 September 2014). (Read more...)

Therefore we decided to register as life partners in Zagreb in early autumn. Our partnership will be recognized in all countries that recognized same-sex partnership.

Currently, there's an ongoing discussion in the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia to amend the country's Constitution in order to limit marriage to opposite-sex couples, as well as the recognition of registered partnerships and unregistered relationships only as unions solely between a man and a woman.

After we come back to Skopje as registered partners, if we get there on time, we want to initiate a public discussion about recognition and legalization of same-sex civil unions in Macedonia. We plan to raise the voice for our rights and try bring some positive change for every LGBTI person and couples in the country still living in fear of discrimination and violence.

Your donations will be used to cover the administrative and paperwork costs, travel expenses and the marriage license fee. The sooner we collect the money, the sooner we can go to Croatia.

We rely on your support! Thank you in advance for donating!

PS: We initially intended to get married at the Grand Pride Wedding on 26 June in Toronto, but due to the short time available for visa processing and fundraising, we had to look for the nearest and less expensive option available. It turned out it was Slovenia, but since the Croatian Parliament passed the Life Partnership Act on 15 July 2014, we decided to go to Croatia.
