As many of you know, I have recently completed my Masters of Arts Degree in Theories of Urban Practice at Parsons the New School for Design.
For my graduate research I focused on the role of culture, race and ethnicity in urban life. I advocated for the right to difference and how important it is to not only recognize our differences but also have culture play a larger role in coproducing the public realm.
In honor of all the recent changes in my life: getting my masters of arts degree, moving to Portland, OR, my recent engagement; I want to find out more about my past and where my family came from.
As a daughter of the African diaspora and a descent of the transatlantic slave trade, I often feel lost when discussing my ancestry. Before I marry the most amazing man Rob Lewis, I would love to spend some time researching my family's history.
