Shadow of His Wings Mission Trip

Donation protected
Eight people from Cape Cod, including myself, my son, our Pastor, his two daughters, and three others, plan to embark on a Missions Trip to Shadow of His Wings Orphanage in
Monjas, Guatemala. Our departure is scheduled for September 19th to the twenty-seventh. Our goals are many and our resources few. Therefore, I am asking with overwhelming humbleness, for donations to make this project happen.

The orphanage lies in the remote country side of rural Guatemala, two hours ride from Guatemala City. Monjas is a small village, and the children who live at the orphanage are primarily girls and young women rescued from some sort of physical or sexual abuse. They live at the orphanage with family groups consisting of a mother and father, and in some cases, the couples biological children. Thus, there are both boys and girls who need our help.

I am an obstetric nurse and mom of four, three of them teenagers. Every person who feels called to this trip is NOT looking for a vacation. In fact, we will arrive in the midst of a hot, humid rainy season, in an envioronment that is not conducive to comfort. Guatemala, in fact, can be an extremely dangerous place. That being said, Pastor Paul, Rachael, Michelle, Josh, Karen, Louisa,Benjamin and myself, are devoted to making this mission happen. For that, we ask for your help.
Beyond conventional fund raisers such as car washes, bake sales. sitting in front of stores, we have been making and selling Louisa's AMAZING homemade salsa, and recently, we have put together some home made drawings that we have made into whimsical coloring books.
We want to raise money for supplies to bring to share, not only with people at the orphanage, but the community, which in the last few years has been working to become self sufficient agriculturally. We hope to share not only whatever supplies we are able to bring through your generosity and those of so many others, but our Christian Faith as well..
The Monjas community grows beans and corn, and recently began raising chickens as well, which provides them with a much needed protein source. The current project being worked on is an acquaponic project, known to some as the Dream Project. Money, through donations, has been sent for the local people to clear the project site, and our group, along with mission teams from all over the United States, will meet and work together to complete the project.
Think of it! An aquaponic project, when (not if, but when- we have faith:) which is, by definition, a fully functional, fully sustainable eco system that can supplement a family's healthy diet and even feed entire communities. Such an amazing achievable goal, and YOU can all be a part of it through your generous contribution.
The eight of us hail from a little church called Freedom Church. We have a small building but great big hearts. The church is a major part of the community in Monjas. We feel so blessed to have an opportunity to help not only our own community here at home, but in Monjas itself. We aim to bring staples such as tylenol, motrin, childrens toys and so many other items requested by the ophanage staff and children..We need your help.
We are scheduled to leave from Boston, and travel to Dallas, where we will meet up with missions groups all over the country. Each of the groups will have one designated suitcase in which to bring supplies and gifts. Otherwise we are traveling only with our back packs and one overhead bag per person. We are allotted two bottles of water to refill and we are blessed even to have that.
There is no adequate manner to express our gratitude to those of you who might be able to help us raise the funds to go to Guatemala and make those childrens faces light up with smiles. We also intend to visit an old folks home, and visit with the people in the surrounding community. Thank you so very much and God bless and keep you safe and warm...
