College Dreamer

My name is Veronica Torres and I am an AB 540 student. My dream is to be child psychologist. My hope is to attend a 4-year university. I am writing this letter because my resources are limited. I am on my own to come up with the money for my educational goals.

I came to this country five years ago at age 11. Before coming to this country I was without my mother for 6 years because she immigrated before I did. I came to this country, and it was very difficult for me to adapt to the culture of this country and especially to learn this language. At school I felt very lonely because I was made fun of for only speaking Spanish and bullied by students. I did not let this deter me from my goal.

Now, I am a junior student at Hawkins High School. I am proud to be part of the honor roll. This makes me think that I can attend university and become someone in life. I want to be the first to go to university in my family. I want to help my mother, and I want her to be proud of me, I have one sister and I want to be her role model so she could also reach her own goals.

I have decided to be a child psychologist because I love working with children. I have been working with children for the past 2 years. Kids inspire me and I am curious of how their mind works. I have a psychology class and I've seen some videos that impact me in a big way. I see how kids have mental disorders and they need help, but there parents can't help them and they don't have money to pay for someone who can help them.

I also see that kids need an advocate. I know kids who have mental disorders and they don't have anyone to help them. I want to be the person to help them and I feel psychology is a way to help students that are in need of it. I am very motivated to continue my education and become a child psychologist. Despite my difficult circumstance I am motivated to continue my education and that is I need help. I thank you for taking time to read this letter and I hope to hear from you soon.
