My name is Erika and I have been unwell for the last 7 years after a viral infection triggered an immune response in my body and led to my condition, which is called Autoimmune Autonomic Ganglionopathy (AAG). Basically this condition has affected almost every aspect of my autonomic nervous system and has caused significant problems in most system functions. The autonomic nervous system controls all of the automatic functions of the body that you don't normally have to think about such as breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, bladder, temperature regulation and so on. Having dysfunction in these areas affects quite a lot and as a result I rely on a power wheelchair to leave the house. A main aspect of my condition is that my blood pressure and heart rate don't regulate properly causing me to faint and loose consciousness multiple times daily.
I can sit and stand for varying minutes before passing out.
I spent 4.5 years in hospital on my first admission as I was too unwell to be at home, and have spent over 5 of the last 7 years stuck in hospital. Being able to do some of my treatments at home recently has allowed me to spend more time at home and begin to restart my life again.
Part of being at home has meant I now have to travel to hospital multiple times per week to attend various appointments and because of this, I desperately need a car that is reliable and will last a long time.
I am in need of a new car that I can get modified to fit my power wheelchair in so I can live a more full and independent life. The car needs to be large enough to fit my chair so I am limited in choices. The car I am needing is in the range $45k -$60k before modifications.
I am not well enough to work and have been trying to save off my disability pension, but this has proven to be extremely difficult amongst medical and health related expenses.
I hate to ask for this assistance but I have no other choice and need this car so I can build my life again. I have had many people suggest fundraising in the past but until now I have not had anything I deemed worthy enough of this helping hand.
