Apraxia in the BIG STATE of TEXAS

Donation protected
I have known the silence of the stars and of the sea,
And the silence of the city when it pauses, ...
And I ask:
Of what use is language?...
we are voiceless in the presence of realities—
We cannot speak.
(Adapted from Edgar Lee Masters. 1869–)

Ethan is 4 yrs old and lives with CAS.  He knows silence. Help us give him as many ways to communicate as we can. Attending theNational Conference on Childhood Apraxia of Speech represents an opportunity to learn new strategies, techniques, and methods to help Ethan reach his full potential. This conference represents the opportunity for us, as parents, to take an active role in changing Ethan’s reality.

So help us MAKE SOME NOISE!
Help us change this silent reality.
Help us get To The Big STATE of Texas for the 2015 National Conference on Childhood Apraxia of Speech.
Help us to learn about the needs, challenges, and abilities of children living with apraxia.

Last year, with your help, we attended the National Conference on Childhood Apraxia of Speech 2014. We learned so much! Thank you all.

AND THIS YEAR WE WON A SCHOLARSHIP!  We are so happy to announce we received a scholarship that will assist us in attending the 2015 conference in San Antonio.  But we need help getting there!

“Apraxia is among the most severe speech and communication problems in children. Affected children have difficulty planning and producing the precise, highly refined and specific series of movements of the tongue, lips, jaw, and palate that are necessary to produce clear, intelligible speech." (CASANA)

“Children with CAS generally have a good understanding of language - They know what they want to say - but have difficulty learning or carrying out the complex movements that underlie speech. "Families have truly longed to have a day recognizing the struggles faced by their children. There are many misconceptions about children who speak little or do not speak well. We aim to improve the public awareness so that accurate information is shared and understood," says Sharon Gretz, executive director of the childhood apraxia of speech association of North America (CASANA).”

This conference is so important to Ethan's progress; we want to make sure he gets all the help and resources he needs to succeed in the community and in school. More than anything we want to understand all the options and to explore all the possibilities. Ethan is an amazing kid with so much to say, we just need to find the best ways to help him say it!

“Bring awareness to our community about this speech problem in children because, although there is little that is known about the disorder, and it is still very misunderstood, it has a huge impact on children and their families.”

Participating in trainings and informative seminars that will assist Ethan in his progress will allow Ethan's parents to advocate not only for Ethan, but for other individuals living with CAS. Help us get to Big state of Texas. We are raising money for airline fare and boarding accommodations.
