CHALK SYNOPSIS

In the early 1960's, 14 year old Annie is confronted with a traumatic past event, when her elder sister Margaret is reintroduced to the family after spending two years in a psychiatric institution. Set on the sweeping British coastline, Chalk investigates the anxiety lying beneath each character's skin as Annie and Margaret struggle to reconnect.

ABOUT CHALK

Chalk is an intimate and strikingly cinematic story following two sisters who struggle to reconnect after the eldest returns home. We follow the younger sister Annie, who must simultaneously deal with the disturbing events following a sinister accident and the extreme jealousy she feels towards her now-mature sister, Margaret.

Chalk effectively combines the dramatic with the ordinary. We follow Annie as she attempts to ignore her disturbing past and ultimately learns to accept it. Furthermore Chalk explores common and identifiable themes of growing up, sibling rivalry and development of sexuality. Annie and Margaret are forced to reconcile in an evocative, menacing environment. Chalk will explore how common sisterly affection can overcome seemingly impossible odds.

We are overjoyed to have worked with a wonderfully talented and experienced cast! With:

Skye Bennet as Annie

Amber Anderson as Margaret

Lynsey Beauchamp as Judith

Jack Brett Anderson as Harry

Lucy Green as Marlene

WHO WE ARE

We are third year students from Westminster Film School. Films made on our course have been seen around the world, being nominated for and winning prestigious awards such as the student Academy Award, ISFVP Bejing, The Directors' Guild of Great Britain, VGIK Moscow, Munich International Student Film Festival and Screentest: The National Student Film Festival. We hope that our graduation film can also achieve such acclaim.

OUR GOAL

Our film is framed against the untameable landscape of the British coastal line, with the chalk cliffs of Kent and the wild, crashing ocean becoming characters in themselves. As can be expected with a location-based shoot, our expenses sadly skyrocketed, and we are currently hitting the fundraising camp hard!

We have already raised a small amount of our overall budget using Kickstarter, which was focused on raising immediate funds to pay for catering, travel expenses and accommodation, but despite the success of that venture, we are still in the red! We are unable to graduate until we wipe out our debt, so we are engaging in a wide range of activities, such as bake sales and car washes, as well as selling our beloved books on ebay, in order to earn back the money required! But despite this, we need to attack it from all directions, which includes the marvellous source of crowdfunding.

That is where you fantastic human beings come in! We offer a variety of rewards for each tier of donation, ranging from a simple thank you to an executive producer credit! So if you've ever wanted your name on the credits of a film that will hopefully make it into festivals (while picking up awards on the way), then there's never been a better time!
