While fraternities are usually recognized for their social standing, we maintain that philanthropy is an integral part of what being a Deke is about. We have the opportunity to do something truly special, but have never had a focused, recurring philanthropy. Upon learning of the rich military history associated with Syracuse University, we have decided to pair with ROTC for a military themed philanthropy. Sunday, April 27, 2014 the Brotherhood of Delta Kappa Epsilon presents "DKE BOOTCAMP".
All proceeds will be going to Veteran's Affair Hospital, right by campus. We have established a great relationship with the administration and will be having a cookout with some of the veterans. The day of the actual event, we have invited all the veterans and their families to come and watch the competition and we will have a short opening ceremony in their honor.
The money will specifically go to the division of Veteran's Affair that specializes in soldiers from 2001. The terror attack on September 11 was a defining moment in many of our lives, as we learned the cost of freedom and that our world was not as safe as we believed. We have the opportunity to serve the men who have served us so courageously. This money will go into improving their recreation services as well as being given as handouts to veterans unable to afford groceries, clothes and the like.
We hope to make this a lasting and ever expanding event, but we need help. The initial start up cost for the materials is expensive, and we want to ensure we can throw the best possible event. Any donation to the effort would be greatly appreciated and even small donations can go a long way. All money will go to the purchasing of the obstacle course equipment, or directly to Veteran's Affair Hospital. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and would help our cause. We thank you for your continued support of the veterans and hope you can make the event.
