Dear Sir or Madame
I am writing to ask for help to my mom, Valeria Olshanskaya. During last 18 years she was the Head of St. Petersburg public organization of hearing disabled children and their parents ARDIS St. Petersburg. The organization brings together parents whose children suffer from hearing impairment and helps children to adapt in society, to acquire hearing aids, to provide treatment and organize their communication and rehabilitation. During her work as the Head of this organization, the assistance was provided to more than two hundred families, the program of free cochlear implantation was launched and 45 children with hearing impairments were assisted.
Valeria Olshanskaya has "burned" at work, giving all efforts to children with hearing impairments. Often she was working for free in the name of the successful children's rehabilitation: But currently Valeria Olshanskaya herself fell in a big trouble.
Valeria has hard cancer type with accompanying diseases. Several surgery operations have been done in Oncology Research Center pos. Pesochny (Russia). She had surgery in Germany in November 14, 2013 as well, where a large tumor was removed. The only close relative of her is me, her daughter, Varvara. Despite the fact that I myself have hearing disability, I tried and try until now to do everything to provide the treatment and save life for my mother. But unfortunately I cannot do everything. The total price of treatment was euro 48500- Some money I earned, some we received from the colleagues and friends of my mother. Our relatives helped us and sometimes even people that we never know also provided diverse support.
The history of our struggle for life:
In winter 2012-13 Valeria received a terrible diagnosis " sarcoma ". Several years she had to go to the doctors , but they were only able to diagnose the disease at the Research Institute of Emergency Care im. Dzhanelidze, where my mom was taken with bleeding. This happened in December 2012, but only at the end of January we could get a quote to Oncology Research Institute im. Petrova, and in February she had a surgery operation.
In April mother was taken again in the hospital with infection and peritonitis. After two major surgery operations mom almost could not walk. With great difficulty we collected all necessary documents for the initiation of chemotherapy, passed eight different analyzes and necessary commissions. It took two months to have the treatment of post-operative infection and make all paperwork for chemotherapy. All this time the tumor was growing. Only in May she started chemotherapy.
Say that my mother had a hard time is to say nothing.
Especially unbearable it was, when she was discharged from the hospital after the first course of chemotherapy without any explanation of how to deal with the consequences. She had four days of constant vomiting and fainting and just could not eat anything. We got into a vicious circle. I have a hearing disability and cannot talk on the phone, even call to the emergency. So I asked friends to ask the doctor who treated my mom for help after chemotherapy. My friend called to the doctor and informed about the terrible condition of my mother and asked for recommendations. But the doctor advised only to call to an ambulance, which should hospitalize mother in the hospital. When we called to an ambulance and asked about hospitalization to manage the consequences of chemotherapy, they came and just pricked the medicine against vomiting. As people say, Russian ambulances have an unspoken agreement not to hospitalize cancer patients. Finally, we called private ambulance, and the doctor said that if we were waiting a little more, my mother could die from dehydration. Then she was hospitalized in the private clinic.
In that moment I made a decision that I will treat my mother only in a private clinic. For the three months of the treatment she felt herself much better. The tumor began to diminish. But the doctors were still pessimistic - they thought it was just a reprieve from imminent death.
Then we started looking for a clinic in Germany. One of the hospitals proposed a detailed examination, and, if possible, surgery to embolize the tumor of vessels, or radiofrequency ablation, or undertake a course of brachytherapy. The condition of my mother didn't allow having the treatment on an outpatient basis, so the clinic sent the bill for 4.5 million roubles plus we needed money to stay in Berlin.
Many friends and colleagues tried to dissuade us from the trip to Berlin, offered to surrender. We had no guarantees, Russian doctors were pessimistic and we needed the huge sum of money. But I decided not to give up, we went to Germany.
Then I was able to find charitable assistance in the amount of 4 615 000.00 roubles. My mother and I made even the most sceptical persons to believe in a miracle, the surgery was successful. When we came to Germany, my mom was confined to a wheelchair, had a constant gag reflex, dizziness, weakness. She came back in a totally different condition, able to move on short distances by herself, she were smiling and had an appetite.
Of course, this is not the end and we have much to do "“ my mom should continue chemotherapy and have rehabilitation treatment. She has a strong struggle for life behind and the results of it must not disappear in the poorly developed depressive public hospital system. We need to have a treatment in a private clinic - taking chemotherapy and course of recovery. We are convinced that only in this case we have full confidence in the ultimate victory of life over death.
At the moment on June 1, 2014, mom has an appointment for the second operation (brachytherapy) on the liver in the Capital Group Health Havelhoe Hospital (Berlin, Germany). But due to the difficult economic situation in Russia (March - April 2014), it is very difficult to find the money for the second surgery. The people who know my mother, her colleagues and friends supported us by donating. But we still have the debt of 1 910 985,00 roubles. For me, this is tremendous amount of money. And that is why I ask you to help me save the life of my mother. I will fight for her life, despite the terrible diagnosis and will show others the possibility of victory over the disease.
Many thanks to all for your help! http://yadi.sk/d/qO3ZP8l3Musf4
